Sonic Christmas Parade thankful for local veteran’s service.
(Lafayette, LA)-In the spirit of “giving thanks”, the Sonic Christmas
Parade held December 4, at 1pm will this year give thanks to local veterans for
their service. The annual tradition of welcoming the Holiday Season to Acadiana by parading through downtown Lafayette this year invites Acadiana military veterans to join the parade.
“It’s a shame that Lafayette does not have a Veterans’ Day parade, so we thought that since Veterans Day and the Sonic Christmas Parade are only
about three weeks apart, it would be great to combine those two events” stated Gary Wilkerson-President Kergan Bros., the local Sonic franchise organization. Veterans from all across Acadiana are invited to march in the parade, which begins in downtown Lafayette and concludes in the Oil Center. “We hope that hundreds or maybe even a thousand veterans will participate and our greater hope is the Acadiana residents will line the streets to show their appreciation for the sacrifices made by these special individuals” said Wilkerson.
All military veterans are invited to march in the parade. Organizations interested in participating should contact Kergan Sonic by visiting www.sonicchristmasparade.com or by contacting Gary Wilkerson at 337-988-5301 ext. 239. Individual veterans are also welcome to takepart even if they decide to do so on parade day. Signs at the parades start (Jefferson andCypress) will indicate where veterans should go to march with their branch of service.
TheSonic Christmas parade will feature the official arrival of Santa to Lafayette. There will be 20 floats and a dozen local high school marching bands. The Shriners will be collecting letters to be delivered to the North Pole and the Sonic floats will be throwing 10,000 Free Route 44 Drink wooden nickels. “This is one of the oldest holiday events in Acadians and it is out privilege to be able to present thisparade as a way of showing our thanks for support our Drive-Ins throughout theyear” said Wilkerson. “We are delighted to have the opportunity to also show our thanks the men and women who serviceour country as well”
